'Kwaidan - Encounters with Lafcadio Hearn' at University of Toyama, Central Library Toyama |富山大学附属図書館 中央図書館 | Japan / 日本
We are pleased to announce the successful start of the Kwaidan exhibition at the University of Toyama!
Various unique events are planned in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Hearn Collection.
About the Hearn Collection:
The Hearn Collection is the former collection of Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904; naturalized in Japan and called himself Koizumi Yakumo).
The collection consists of 2,069 Western books, 364 Japanese and Chinese books, and 1,200 handwritten manuscripts of “Japan: One Clarification” (“Shinkoku Nihon”) in two volumes.
Most of these books seem to have been collected after Hearn's arrival in Japan, but some of them were purchased during his stay in Cincinnati and New Orleans in the U.S., where he was a poor reporter. The Herne Collection is open to the public on a regular basis.
You can see all 40 works at once on the second floor of the library lobby!
The exhibition will be held on the following dates:
09.10.2024 – 05.11.2024
