This spring, KURA MONZEN Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition by Kako Katsumi,
a ceramic artist based in Tamba Sasayama. Influenced by his father,
a master wheel potter of Kiyomizu ware, Kako pursued a career in ceramics.
His works draw inspiration from Japan’s Jomon and Yayoi periods as well asancient
Western pottery, and are characterized by their primitive motifs and refined presence.
Celebrating his 60th birthday this year,
this exhibition traces the artist’s creative journey - his “痕跡”(traces) -
and highlights the tactile beauty and textures of his fired clay - also “痕跡”.
