2026 Autumn, Special Exhibition "人間国宝 | Living National Treasures"

We at Kura Monzen Gallery are pleased to announce the opening of our forthcoming exhibition,
Living National Treasures of Japan, beginning Saturday, October 17.

The exhibition brings together a selection of KOGEI works by the following artists recognized for their mastery of traditional Japanese craftsmanship in ceramics, lacquer, metalwork, woodwork, and bamboo art.

The Japanese government does not honor these individuals as Living National Treasures in response to fame or artistic achievement alone. They are designated as holders of Important Intangible Cultural Properties (Jūyō Mukei Bunkazai Hojisha), recognizing their mastery of skills and techniques considered essential to Japan's cultural heritage. Therefore, what unites these artists is not the pinnacle of fame or some shared aesthetic, but an extraordinary commitment to the possibilities of their chosen materials and traditions.

We warmly invite you to join us in celebrating the remarkable achievements of these artists, whose dedication and creative vision have helped shape the enduring legacy of Japanese craftsmanship.

New works will be introduced during the exhibition period.
