Its pristine white upper body is perched improbably atop a rugged, almost geological mass of dark red clay. The smooth, swelling vessel provides a striking contrast to the craggy structure below, where the clay has been built into an irregular network of ledges, cavities and projecting forms. White porcelain glaze spills from the vessel onto this rough surface in places, visually joining the two very different ceramic worlds. The work is 11 x 8 x 18 cm (4-1/3 x 3-1/8 x 7 inches) and in excellent condition, directly from the artist.

Born in Tokyo in 1990, Fukazawa Ion grew up shuffling between Japan and Sydney until he was 18 years old. The nature he was exposed to Down Under is an abundantly clear influence in his artwork. He studied at the University of New South Wales graduating with a BA in Ceramic Design in 2013. Post graduation he made a living producing vessels for restaurants for several years however longed for a more expressionist craft. He subsequently enrolled in the Tajimi Design Institute, graduating in 2020. Since his work has been exhibited in both his home countries of Japan and Australia, as well as featured in Greece, Italy, China and the United States.

https://kuramonzen.com/products/white-vase-on-stone-%e3%83%bc%e6%b7%b1%e6%be%a4-%e4%bc%8a%e7%a9%8f-%e7%9f%b3%e3%83%8e%e4%b8%8a-%e8%8a%b1%e5%99%a8
