Tiger Shrimp scuttle past a burst of silver bubbles dominating the center of this Furosaki byobu small two panel lacquered screen by Onaga Tamotsu. It is 173 x 1.5 x 54.5 cm. Minor abrasions typical of age and use.

Onaga Tamotsu (b. 1932) was known as a multifaceted artist. Based in his studio in Himi, he often used local fish as motifs in his work, which became a distinctive feature of his artistry. He was a leading participant in the Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition). Onaga earned numerous prestigious awards, including the Chrysanthemum Prize, and eventually even received the Minister's Award. A large screen is held in the Takaoka Municipal Museum.
