An elegant modern form by Iguchi Daisuke enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kunto Tsubo. It is 26.5 cm (10-1/2 inches) diameter, 18 cm (over 7 inches) tall and in excellent condition.

Born in 1975 in Tochigi Prefecture, Iguchi Daisuke graduated from Tohoku University of Art and Design in 1998, trained under Masayuki Uraguchi at the Tochigi Prefectural Ceramics Institute, and established his independent kiln in Mooka City in 2004. His signature Shuto or “rusty pottery” is hand-built from stoneware clay, coated with rice-husk ash or paste, and fired in reduction, then wire-brushed to achieve an oxidized, rust-like patina evocative of aged stone and moss. Geometric patterns in silver-slip glaze, applied through careful masking and multiple firings, create striking contrasts between weathered textures and refined form. Rooted in the Japanese aesthetic of sabi, his vessels convey a quiet power that fuses contemporary sensibility with a primordial atmosphere. Iguchi has exhibited internationally, including his first U.S. solo show Depth of Time (Joan B Mirviss Ltd, 2018) and a 2019 solo exhibition at Pierre Marie Giraud in Brussels. His many honors include the Judge’s Special Prize at the Mashiko Ceramic Art Exhibition (2008), the Governor of Tokyo Prize (2014), and the Grand Prize at the Paramita Ceramic Arts Exhibition (2019). His works are represented in major collections, including the Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art, Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum, Paramita Museum, Arkansas Arts Center, Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, and Yale University Art Gallery.
