A beautiful censer surmounted by a long eared rabbit by the first generation Kuze Kyuho enclosed in the original signed wooden box.  The body is created in the Awata style of traditional Kyoto lightly decorated with floral sprays in gold. There are four Shippo-moyo piercing the flaring rim. It is clearly marked on the base Kyuho.  It is 10.5 cm (4-1/4 inches) diameter, 11.5 cm (4-1/2 inches) tall and in excellent condition.

Kuze Kyuho I (1874-1947) was born in Kyoto son of a priest who was a compatriot of Otagaki Rengetsu, the female potter and poet, and it is known that they worked together. Kyuho took his fathers lead, and having established a reputation for excellence, was granted the name Kyuho by tea master Soshitsu Ennosai. He passed the family name to his son, and it continued for five generations, until 2014.
