Blossoms in gold and silver decorate the moody crackled glaze covering this vase by Yasuda Zenko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Seiko Kabin. The coloration is like the winter sky laden with snow, while the flowers, in shimmering gold and silver are like the Kohaku (red and white) blossoms of the plum tree. It is 30cm (12 inches) tall 8.5cm (3-1/2 inches) diameter and in excellent condition.
Yasuda Zenko (Tomohiko) (1926-2004), Studied under Kiyomizu Rokubei VI. His work was first displayed nationally at the Nitten, 1950 where he would exhibit consistently later serving as a juror. H received the prestigious Japan Ceramic Society award in 1958, the same year his work was exhibited internationally and collected by the Kiev Museum. His work was subsequently collected by the Metropolitan Museum of New York in 1963. Awarded the Nitten, Hokutosho prize 1964, followed by the National Modern Crafts Exhibition 1967 and collected by Japanese Government, 1971 (Gaimusho). A Private Exhibition of the artists work was held in San Francisco in 1978, a rarity for a Japanese artist at that time. A large vessel by him is held in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Shiga Prefectural Museum of Modern Art, as well as Shiga Togei no Mori Ceramic Art Museum among others.
