A fabulous pair of hand formed (Tankin) silver Choshi sake servers from the Kaga metalwork technique of Kakihata Jinjiro (Motojiro) of Kanazawa, with yuzu-hada orange-peel surface outside, the rims, spout and interior in highly polished silver finish. The looping handles are intertwined tubes of aka-do and silver. Each is signed on the base “Moto” in a square seal. They come enclosed in the original wooden box titled Gin-sei Choshi and signed by the artist within. They are 9 x 11.5 x 15 cm (3-5/8 x 4-1/2 x 6 inches) plus the handles, and weigh 528 grams, both are in excellent condition.

Tankin is a traditional Japanese metal hammering and forging craft. In Kanazawa—a historic hub for traditional metal and lacquer crafts, artisans shape metal lumps or sheets into vessels, kettles, and sculptures using anvils, specialized hammers, and heat.
