Signed with an incised signature on the base, it is 30.5 cm (12 inches) diameter, 15 cm (6 inches) tall and in fine condition. Marks within the basin are testament to its use in flower arrangement using flower frogs.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is from the collection of a household formerly of samurai status, which, unlike many families, maintained its power over the centuries, into the modern age. The collection encompassed a great many antique and early modern Tea related works, Bronzes, porcelains and Lacquer wares. Without a successor in the current age, the collection was dispersed this Spring.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe name of Nakajima first came to notice in 1908, when the first generation Yasumi (1877-1950) was awarded at the Senkatsu Kinen Exhibition. He was a consistent exhibitor with the Teiten-Nitten national exhibitions and was also quite active abroad, being prized at the 1931 Belgian Exposition and serving as juror for the Japanese submissions to the Paris Exposition in 1925 where he was subsequently prized.
