A water jar for use in the Japanese Macha tea ceremony by Kuze Kyuho enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Ninsei Utsushi Iroe Ryukyo Mizusashi (Ninsei style water jar in color with Willow and Bridge motif). It comes with the original ceramic lid and is in excellent conditiom. The jar is 17.5 cm (7 inches) diameter, roughly the same height and in perfect condition.
Kuze Kyuho I (1874-1947) was born in Kyoto son of a priest who was a compatriot of Otagaki Rengetsu, the female potter and poet, and it is known that they worked together. Kyuho took his fathers lead, and having established a reputation for excellence, was granted the name Kyuho by tea master Soshitsu Ennosai. He passed the family name to his son, and it continued for five generations, until 2014.
