The gently swelling body rises to rounded shoulders and a short neck with a strongly defined, slightly irregular mouth, the restrained form covered in a softly crackled ivory-white glaze. Across one side Tamura has painted an extraordinarily spare abstract design in iron, a slender branching line punctuated by concentrated passages of rust-red, brown and almost black, while the reverse is deliberately left largely undecorated. A broad iron band encircles the vessel at its widest point, anchoring the freely brushed vertical composition and emphasizing the transition between the rounded upper body and tapering base. The contrast between the quiet white field and the spontaneous iron painting is characteristic of Tamura's mature work, allowing the movement and varied density of each brushstroke to become the principal decoration. It measures 16 cm (6-1/4 inches) in diameter and 29.5 cm (11-5/8 inches) tall and is in perfect condition.

Tamura Kōichi (1918–1987) studied at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and later worked under Tomimoto Kenkichi, whose approach to modern ceramic decoration had an important influence on his development. Tamura became particularly celebrated for his expressive use of iron painting and iron glazes, combining vigorous, often highly abbreviated brushwork with strongly conceived vessel forms. He later taught at his alma mater and in 1986 was designated a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) for his iron-painted ceramics (tetsu-e), one year before his death.

https://kuramonzen.com/products/exquisite-bottle-vase-by-lnt-%e3%83%bc%e7%94%b0%e6%9d%91-%e8%80%95%e4%b8%80-%e9%89%84%e7%b5%b5%e5%a3%ba
