Kabukimono refers to a person who dresses in flamboyant clothing and behaves in an eccentric, unconventional, or rebellious manner. It comes from the verb kabuku, which means "to deviate from the norm." This word is also the direct origin of the traditional Japanese theater, Kabuki. This social phenomenon peaked during the end of the Sengoku period (Warring States period) and the early Edo period (late 16th to early 17th century). <br>
Ichikawa Toru was born in Tokyo in 1973. In 2015 he established his current studio in Bizen after 4 years of apprenticeship under another Bizen Outsider, Kakurezaki Ryuichi. He has since developed quite a following, with his shows selling out often within hours.
