An intimate vessel deeply charred with goma and beautiful Hi-iro by Mori Teisai enclosed in the ordinal signed wooden box titled Bizen Yo-hen Mimitsuki Tokkuri. About the size of a baseball, it is perfect for sharing sake with a friend, pre-cooled it would be perfect for reishu on a hot summer evening. It is 9 cm (3-1/2 inches) diameter, 10 cm (4 inches) tall and in perfect condition.
Mori Teisai was born the son of Bizen potter Mori Fūrai and descends from the Terami family, one of the six hereditary lineages of Bizen potters (Rokushō Bisai Kunin). He has exhibited widely, with selections for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition and numerous other juried exhibitions. His work is distinguished by its warm, refined character, emphasizing the inherent beauty of Bizen clay. Dedicated to expanding the expressive possibilities of Bizen ware, Mori has pursued innovative forms and developed a distinctive new firing technique known as Yūdasuki ("glazed tasuki"). Unlike the traditional Bizen firing effects of goma, kiln transformation (yōhen), hidasuki, sangiri, or coated-clay finishes, Yūdasuki represents an entirely new decorative firing method, combining the visual effect of a glaze with the characteristic "tasuki" pattern.
