Alexandre Imai was born in Paris in 1959, the son of the renowned Japanese painter Imai Toshimitsu, and was raised in an artistic environment immersed in the cultures of France, Japan, and the United Kingdom. He studied under the celebrated photographer David Bailey, cultivating an international sensibility. His practice centers on abstract expression while embracing diverse techniques, from energetic, pop-inspired splash painting to semi-relief constructions, creating a unique and dynamic visual language. His works balance raw energy with elegance, producing a strong impact and refined presence within the spaces they inhabit. Imai is also recognized as a pioneer of live painting, having undertaken numerous large-scale mural projects for corporate events and public venues. A notable example is Flying Dragon, a monumental mural measuring 20 by 12 meters created for the atrium of Matsuya Ginza, which demonstrates his exceptional ability to transform and animate architectural space. He has received numerous accolades, including the Taro Okamoto Award and the Silver Prize at the Fuji Grand Prix, and has exhibited extensively at international art exhibitions.
