A beautifully formed vessel in powdery white glaze by Kato Ryotaro enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kohiki Uzukumaru. It is 10.5 x 15.5 x 10.5 cm (roughly 4 x 6 x 4 inches) and is in excellent condition.
Kato Ryotaro was born the son of the 7th Kato Kobei in 1974. However, he went to study in Kyoto, where he graduated from the Seika University Ceramics Art Department in 1998, and then Kyoto University of Art with a masters degree in 2000. In 2001 he returned to the family kiln, and built his own kiln which he fired for the first time in 2002. He has since held many solo exhibitions including at the exclusive Kuroda Toen in Tokyo, and been selected for such important events as the 9th Paramita Ceramics Award Exhibition at the Paramita Museum in 2014. In 2015 he succeeded as head of the Kobe kiln. In 2024 he was awarded the prestigious JCS (Japan Ceramic Society) Award.
