A beautiful ivory colored celadon vase by Wakao Kei enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Zogei-ji Hana-ire. It is 13.5 cm (5-1/2 inches) diameter, 20.5 cm (8 inches) tall and in excellent condition, a superb example of this artist’s unique aesthetic.
Wakao Kei was born the first son of Shino legend Wakao Toshisada in 1967. He graduated the College of Art at Nihon University Department of Photography in 1993. In 1995, he completed training at the Tajimi City Pottery Design and Technical Center. Two years later, his work was accepted into the Nihon Dento Kogeiten National Traditional Crafts Exhibition and was awarded at the Asahi Togeiten Ceramic Art Exhibition. These were the first of a host of awards he would garner over the years in venues such as the Mino International Ceramics Festival and the important Paramita Grand Prize. He had a solo exhibition at Shibuya Kurodatoen in 2004, and has held solo exhibitions continuously since throughout Japan.
