Fukushima Hiroko 福島 寛子

Fukushima Hiroko was born in Kanagawa Prefecture and graduated from the Western Painting Department of Joshi Bijutsu Daigaku (Women’s College of Fine Arts) in 1967. Her artistic focus shifted to ceramics in 1987, and after nearly a decade of practice and work at other kilns, she established her own kiln in 1996.

That same year, her work was awarded at the Kanagawa Prefectural Art Exhibition. In 1997, her work was accepted into the National Traditional Crafts Exhibition (Nihon Dentō Kōgei-ten) and again received recognition at the Kanagawa Prefectural Art Exhibition. In 1999, she was accepted into—and awarded at—the Asahi Tōgei-ten Ceramics Exhibition for the first time.

Fukushima continued to receive significant recognition throughout the following years, earning prizes at the Seto Sometsuke Public Exhibition, which specializes in blue-and-white ceramics, in both 2000 and 2002. In 2007, her work was awarded at the Nihon Shinsaku Kōgei-ten, and in 2010 it was presented at the MOA Museum of Art in Shizuoka. From 2013, she exhibited with the Tobi-ten of the Nihon Tōgei Bijutsu Kyōkai.

In 2020, her work was acquired by the Imperial Household Agency. Following the death of her husband and no longer able to produce the large-scale works she had made independently, Fukushima retired from ceramic practice in 2023.

She also participated in the exhibition "IBUKI" Digital Catalog
